Graphic Communications is the process of creating, producing, and distributing material incorporating words and images to convey data, concepts, and emotions.

The field of graphic communications encompasses all phases of the graphic communications processes from origination of the idea (design, layout, photography and typography) through production (offset printing and digital imaging) to finishing (cutting, folding, binding etc.).

This course allows students to delve into the Graphic Communications field through increasingly difficult hands on projects. Student projects will reinforce their skills and enhance their electronic portfolios.

Graphic Communication I

Students are taught the technical skills used in the Graphic Communications field. This includes layout and design with professional software. Digital photography, offset printing, screen printing, vinyl applications and video production are the core areas as students produce a series of projects to reinforce their skills.

Graphic Communication II

Prerequisite:  Graphic Communications I; Teacher Recommendation

This course is a continuation of level I. It will prepare students for a college major or career in Graphic Communications. This course has an emphasis on multi color production for offset projects. Students will produce a complex series of projects to reinforce their skills. Students will have an electronic portfolio of projects upon course completion.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The ever changing and global technological advancements offer newer and broader opportunities in the creative industry. The Digital Art and Design program prepares students for a multitude of careers in the graphic design field. This program provides instruction in layout, computer design, electronic art, color enhancement, and digital photography. Students use design concepts, principles, and processes that meet client expectations using Adobe Creative Suite Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Students will have the opportunity to attain Adobe Certified Associate certification. Career development and employability skills are the foundation of all career and technology education. Students will compile their works for inclusion in a portfolio, for use in this program of study, the workforce, or postsecondary education.
